A developing fiction project about grief, documentary evidence, and what happens when one inconsistency makes an official story stop fitting.

One discrepancy can reopen everything.

A parent loses an adult child in an event quickly classified as an accident and closed. Months later, one bounded documentary inconsistency—an impossible timestamp, an altered record, a missing image, or another fact that should not be wrong—makes the official account stop fitting.

The project is being developed as character-driven institutional suspense with a fair-play mystery engine: private loss, a single discrepancy, the documentary record, a larger pattern, and the consequences of forcing that record into public view.

Development boundary: Project Still Water is a public development codename, not the final retail title. No release date, preorder, price, or final format has been announced.

What to expect

Grief, evidence, and institutional pressure.

01

Private loss

The emotional center begins with a family trying to live after a loss that was supposedly explained.

02

The discrepancy

A small record-level inconsistency creates a question that cannot be put back into the file.

03

The larger pattern

Documents, timelines, decisions, and other families gradually reveal that the first inconsistency may not stand alone.

04

Accountability without revenge

The project aims for consequence, truth, and earned hope rather than a simple vigilante payoff.

Development status

The concept is public; the book is not yet being sold.

Young Enterprises Publishing has retained the concept and adopted L. M. Sloane as its public author brand. Story architecture and retail-title clearance remain in development.

Earlier title ideas were retired during conflict screening; a final retail title will be announced only after it clears the same discoverability review used for the author brands.
